Overview
Painting an aircraft takes more than paint. The old coating has to be washed and stripped, the stripper and waste need containers, and anything that must not be painted has to be masked. After the job, paint sludge and solvent still have to be disposed of correctly. Most of this is small consumables, but if one item arrives late, work on the whole aircraft waits.
In 2026, Sahawatthanakit (1988) supplied this kind of work at Don Mueang for two customers.
Business-jet strip and repaint (September 2026)
On one business-jet strip-and-repaint at Don Mueang, we supplied both companies involved:
| Customer | Supplied | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| TAI | 4 × 1,000-litre IBC totes + 10 × 200-litre steel drums | Listed on TAI's approved material list for stripping this aircraft; received 18 September 2026 |
| MJets | 5 rolls of glossy brown masking paper, 50 g, 90 cm × 400 m | Masking during painting, bought at TAI's request for this aircraft's repaint; delivered to the maintenance parts store at the Don Mueang private jet terminal |
For this job MJets had us complete its MRO vendor evaluation and acknowledge its quality, safety and security policy and its business-partner code of conduct. It then registered us as a vendor.
Ongoing work for TAI Don Mueang (July – September 2026)
| Month | Job | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Jul 2026 | Steel drums for chemicals | 10 × 200-litre steel drums with clamp ring and lid (used, good condition) |
| Jul 2026 | IBC totes for chemicals | 6 × 1,000-litre IBC totes with steel cage and pallet (used, good condition) |
| Aug 2026 | Removal of paint sludge and wash/strip water | One load of paint sludge and solvent by 10-wheel roll-off truck, disposed of by fuel blending, under a hazardous-waste transport manifest |
| Sep 2026 | HDPE sheet repair | One on-site repair of HDPE sheeting, materials included; completed |
| Sep 2026 | Drums and IBC totes against a TAI RFQ | The same set used on the business-jet strip above |
In total we delivered 30 chemical containers to TAI: 20 × 200-litre steel drums and 10 × 1,000-litre IBC totes.
Why small items matter to a maintenance shop
- Containers have to be on site before stripping starts. Without enough of them, stripper and sludge sit in the hangar.
- Masking paper has to match the spec and arrive before the paint slot. If it is late, the aircraft stays in the hangar longer.
- Hazardous-waste removal is priced per trip with a per-trip minimum, so each trip has to be planned with the site to carry a full load.
- Containment areas need fast repairs. The HDPE job was quoted for site attendance within 3 days of the PO. The quotation also stated from the start that a site without power needs a 220 V generator of at least 5 kW.
What we were responsible for
- Sourcing to the site's specification, with the condition of each item stated plainly on the quotation (for example, used drums in good condition)
- Working inside the customer's vendor system, from vendor evaluation to answering RFQs against the stated specification
- Coordinating waste removal and disposal: accepted waste types, per-trip minimum, disposal method and the hazardous-waste transport manifest
- On-site repair work with a 3-month workmanship warranty and a post-handover report
- Complete paperwork: billing notes, full tax invoices and delivery documents
Results
- Both TAI and MJets used our supplies on the same aircraft
- Registered vendor of a business-jet maintenance company
- 4 repeat orders from TAI after the first job, over about two and a half months
- One vendor covering what goes in (paint-line materials, containers) and what comes out (waste removal and disposal)
Why this is relevant to you
If you run an aircraft, engine or ground-equipment maintenance shop that paints or strips, we can supply the materials around the paint job: masking, surface-preparation chemicals, thinners and containers. We also arrange removal and disposal of the waste. See aircraft paint and surface-preparation supplies.
Sahawatthanakit (1988) is VAT-registered and issues full tax invoices.
