Ground power requirement builder — turn a kVA figure into a specification

Answer what the tender has to settle, and get a requirement draft you can paste into a TOR — with the clauses the standards impose and the questions still open. It does not estimate kVA: that comes from the aircraft's own documentation.

1.What power do the aircraft require?

Get this wrong and the unit cannot serve part of the fleet at all.

2.Which supply system do the aircraft use?

MIL-STD-704 permits alternative systems, so a mixed fleet may not be uniform.

3.How many aircraft must be powered at once?

What pushes the size up is usually how many at once, not how large any one is.

4.What power source is available at the stand?

This splits the market in two; written as one line, the bids cannot be compared.

5.Installation form

Decides how freely the unit moves between stands, and how it is maintained.

6.Distance from the unit to the aircraft receptacle

ISO 6858 measures at the aircraft connector, so cable drop is the buyer's to allow for.

7.Does this requirement specify interference control?

If it does, it belongs in the requirement from the start — it shapes the unit's design.

Requirement draft

Applies to every requirement

  • All specified electrical characteristics are to be met as measured at the aircraft attaching connector, not at the unit's own output terminals.ISO 6858:2017
  • The bidder shall state the supply cable length offered and demonstrate that the characteristics at the aircraft connector are still met at that length.ISO 6858:2017
  • The tender shall state the point at which acceptance testing will measure.
  • The manufacturer's current datasheet governs; specifications change by sub-model and option.

A tender issued with these unanswered invites each bidder to interpret them differently, and the prices then cannot be compared.

What this tool does not decide

  • • The output required (kVA) must come from each aircraft type's own documentation. This tool does not estimate it.
  • • Model and manufacturer — we shortlist after the requirement is complete, and represent no manufacturer exclusively.
  • • Price — quoted case by case against model and quantity.

Send the aircraft types and this draft, and we will return a line-by-line specification comparison across manufacturers.
