NSF H1 food-grade brands compared

NSF H1 food-grade lubricant brandsWhich to choose — Western vs Japanese?

Food and beverage plants need not lock into one brand — NSF H1 vs ISO 21469 decision table, Western set (with ISO 21469) vs Japanese/Asian set (ready stock) + choose by the certificate your audit requires

In short — which set?

The deciding factor is the certificate your customer's audit requires not the region — NSF H1 = formulation/label review, ISO 21469 = annual audit of the manufacturing plant (one level up)

Audit specifies ISO 21469

Western set (with ISO 21469)

  • Interflon · CRC · Klüber · FUCHS Cassida hold ISO 21469 (annual production-line audit)
  • Interflon = full line + PFAS-free (NSF 537) — answers export chemical audits
  • Klüber/Cassida = top spec/OEM · extreme-temperature duty −50 to +300°C
  • Choose this set when the audit (some BRC/FSSC 22000) specifies ISO 21469
Best for

Plants with strict audits / needing PFAS-free / special specs

Need it fast

Japanese/Asian set (ready stock)

  • SUMICO (Sumitomo group) · Molykote · NOK Klüber · Ichinen · Suzuki Kikoh
  • Ready stock — no waiting for intercontinental import
  • NSF H1 (some 3H) — mostly without ISO 21469 yet
  • Choose when the audit only specifies NSF H1 + you need it fast
Best for

Plants whose audit specifies NSF H1 + need a short lead time

Cleaners + sprays

CRC Food Grade

  • Strong in cleaners (Bio Degreaser NSF A1) + ready-to-use sprays
  • Cans/gallons, ready to use, low entry price
  • Covers cleaning + small-point lubrication
  • Supplements the main set — does not replace heavy-duty greases/oils
Best for

Cleaning + ready-to-use small-point lubrication

We distribute genuine products from several brands (not the official distributor of every brand). Bechem (Germany) is also in our food-grade line — our team verifies the spec/TDS/NSF listing of every model offered before quoting. Prices are quote-based by model/quantity.

FAQ

Common Questions

Q1.What's the difference between NSF H1 and ISO 21469 — do I need both?+
NSF H1 audits the formula/label for incidental food contact. ISO 21469 goes further — it audits the lubricant maker's own production line every year. Whether you need both depends on your customer's audit: some BRC/FSSC 22000 programs require ISO 21469 → choose the Western set (Interflon/CRC/Klüber/FUCHS Cassida hold ISO 21469); if only NSF H1 is required, the Japanese/Asian set qualifies and wins on stock availability.
Q2.Must a food plant lock to one brand, or can it switch from Bechem?+
No lock-in — audits (GMP/HACCP/BRC/FSSC 22000) check the NSF H1/A1/3H and ISO 21469 registration, not the brand name. As long as the chosen product carries the right registration for the point of use (matching ISO VG / NLGI grade / temperature range), you can switch or run multiple brands. Update the chemical register and keep the new product's certificate for the auditor.
Q3.Which Japanese/Asian food-grade brands are available in-stock?+
SUMICO (Sumitomo Metal Mining group — 30+ NSF H1 oils, greases, sprays), Molykote (HP-300/500 fluorinated grease for hot points), NOK Klüber (barrierta high-temp + food-contact silicone), Ichinen and Suzuki Kikoh (silicone gel / H1 spray & cartridge). In-country stock, no import wait — most do NOT hold ISO 21469, so confirm TDS/NSF before quoting.
Q4.Why does Interflon PFAS-free (NSF 537) matter for exporters?+
PFAS/PTFE is under scrutiny and being phased out across the EU and many export markets. Interflon is the first brand with NSF 537 (PFAS-free) across its full H1+3H range — a selling point for exporters answering chemical-safety audits. Note: some legacy PTFE greases have no exact PFAS-free equivalent, so choose based on whether PTFE or PFAS-free matters more.
Q5.I use a specific Bechem grade — what's the cross-reference?+
Match by spec: VG 32 oil (Berusynth 32 H1) → Interflon Food Lube H32 / Cassida Fluid HF 32; VG 100 gear oil → Interflon Food Lube G100 / Klüberoil 4 UH1-100; NLGI 2 EP grease (Berulub FG-H 2 EP) → Interflon Food Grease EP / Cassida Grease EPS 2; cleaners → CRC Bio Degreaser / Interflon Metal Clean F. Based on ISO VG / NLGI / NSF and application; our team confirms before quoting.
